The 3 Steps SaaS Shift

A staggering 4.5 million workers quit their jobs in November 2021 alone. I was one of them!

During the pandemic while a lot of people have resigned, majority of the population is still struggling to find one single job. UN expects over 200 Million people to remain unemployed. This has scared a lot of folks & families, but on the other hand, switching between companies has become easy for some. I have known people who have switched at least twice in a span of 2 years.

Well, now I am just jogging back and forth between resignation and unemployement. But this is not about resignation or unemlpoyement. At least not directly relatable.

When I decided to make a move from my previous organisation, I had one thing in mind. I WILL NOT JOIN a corporate. I had worked closely (not as an employee) with over 30 startups in a year and given my affinity towards them, I had to join one.

1st Step: The Most Important Question

  • What was the stage of the startup I wanted to join? ( Not so important)
  • What problem was the startup solving? (Not that important)
  • What sector was the startup in? (Mildly important)
  • What was their Revenue Model? (This was intruiging)

The reason the revenue model was important for my decision was because I was fascinated by one thing. Recurring Revenue. Something about money coming into the venture on a regular basis was an indication that people wanted the solution, for whatever reason it may be.

I came across a lot of startups and it was intriguing to learn about them.

2nd Step: What was the next thing I wanted?

Once I had shortlisted the startups, my next objective was to be able to make an impact. (that’s the beauty of startups, you are of great importance to them) But my priority was my personal time, life and experience. And that meant, work culture.

PS. I was thrilled by Meesho and their updated work culture. It had recurring revenue as well and I would make an impact. I came across many more, can’t possibly list them out

3rd Step: Why The SaaS Shift?

Now I had to make my final decision. Back when I started my venture with my Co-Founder, Yash, we used to dream about bringing in insane amount of revenue into the company. And one way to do that was by becoming scalable with the click of a button.

We could literally click a button and we could go live in Mexico, Mumbai and Melbourne at the same time. That is when I fortunately came across Chargebee. When people think of SaaS, they think of Chargebee.

Everything seemed to fall into place and the picture infront of me was crystal clear. SaaS was my next step. I would work with a team, like a startup within a startup and for the startups. It was like a dream come true.

That, is how I made the SaaS Shift!
